Ukraine being allowed to join NATO would give it the potential backing of the others in that conference, and would presumably send a signal to Putin that if he picks on one he picks in then all.

And I wholeheartedly disagree when you say "... so many in the West have bought into Russia having legitimate grievances." That is not a circulating sentiment or narrative. It MAY appear that way because at this moment we have a tyrannical leader in our country being extremely tolerant of Putin, if not defensive of him, BUT I ASSURE YOU that is not a consensus opinion. That is why we're doing everything we can to remove him from office.

From my best understanding, those that voted for Trump did so out of the false impressions and promises given them by him and the multi-pronged fears he successfully established via media channels, day by day, regarding the rising cost of goods and the "invasion of violent immigrants" taking over the country. People in fear lost site of the most important feature of the U.S., which many of us tried to preserve - it's Constitution and democratic processes.

Please note, Trump did not get about 50% of Americans to vote for him. He received about 50% of only those who actually voted. Many of those who DID vote for him now see him much more clearly and have turned against him; red districts are turning blue. And those that did not vote at all for whatever reason(s) now see the need to have done so, albeit late in the game. If a vote was taken tomorrow it would be a different result. The biggest problem is there's no obvious opposition candidate. And the Dems have to now prove they are not handling things in D.C. like it's business as usual - and they have been rallying to the moment. There's just some inertia they needed to combat.

Unfortunately, I see a ton of pro-Russian comments from Westerners on social media. Especially the Trump crowd. That's what I was basing my comment on. A lot of these could also be Russian bots but many aren't.

As for the outcome being different now because some people have realized who Trump really is... First of all, that's a hypothetical. Secondly, if people didn't realize who he was during this election I don't really know what to say. Especially after the Jan 6 schenanigans he pulled that nearly resulted in a banana republic where the losing candidate stays in office.

Lastly, there's not much you or the Dems can do now. You've lost the election badly and Trump also has majorities in both chambers of Congress. Elections have concequences and Dems totally screwed up by first running a very old Biden and then switching him to an obvious fraud like Kamala at the 11th hour. It doesn't really matter if over 50% of those who voted chose Trump. Only those who vote count. The rest relegate themselves to NPCs.

We, in the States, have mostly moved past the blame game and the “us vs. them” mentality. It is not lost on us how we got here, but we're now into finding solutions. We will re-invent the government as needed, as we move forward.

With Trump's unmistakable lawlessnesss surrounding his cruelty of immigrants, denying them due process and exiling them to strange, brutal foreign places, along with his attempts to destroy our Constitutional rights and our democracy and our economy, what I said about The People awakening to who he actually is, is not merely hypothetical, as you said.

It is predicted that about 30% of Trump's followers will never see him for who and what he is, no matter what, because they have turned his ideologies into what they now deem as "facts," however false they may be. It's full indoctrination - but they also just may be the ones who feel the need to be the most outspoken and extreme so they may APPEAR like a larger group to you than they are. It's ok if you decide to disagree with me and the conversion of hearts I've been watching unfold in states around me in special elections, as you're entitled to your experience and to your opinion.

Just know Trump's plan IS falling apart around him as I write this. Elon Musk and he are having a very public war of the words. I'm sure the news about it will reach you soon. I believe this kind of tweeted aggression amongst high-level government figures is unprecedented. Then again we've seen many firsts as of late.

Trump can keep trying to do his best to break us down, but WE will regain power. There is hope, and the justification for that hope is on its way. When WE, The People have right on our side, and we do, we will not stop until we win back the White House, and law and order are restored.

Good luck! Be well!

Trump's most blindly loyal followers either think he'll make them rich, or save them from being "Zimbabwe'd". Or both. It's a malaise going back to at least the American Civil War.

It seems very much like a cult mentality amongst the MAGA supporters. Some of their beliefs represent the worst sides of our humanity.

And I do tend to agree that much of this goes back to the early colonial mentality, sadly. It's an awful long frigging time to hold a grudge, an to hold an extremely narrow point of view. I would think people have to try REALLY hard in order to keep from growing and expanding their points of view. It seems to me adaptability would be a good trait for them to cultivate.

I'm not sure what "Zimbabwe'd" means exactly, but I can guess that it's not good.

"Zimbabwe'd" refers to Robert Mugabe's forced land grabs in the early 2000s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_reform_in_Zimbabwe#Fast-track_land_reform_and_violence

More specifically, it refers to de-slaved Southerners' fears in the Reconstruction period that freed slaves would treat them like they treated the slaves. Back then it was associated with fears about the Haitian Revolution spreading to the American South, which might be thought of as a proto-Red Scare.

Which makes perfect sense when segregationists would wave placards reading, "Race mixing is Communism" during the 1950s.

I thought as much, but wasn't sure.

Much of those 50s-60s pics I'd never seen. Usually only the same few horrific photos are shown. These archived or hidden ones moreso depict, as a collection, the extent of the racism, even at high levels of gov't. These pics prove to me why history needs to be preserved, AND all of the links you shared were so impactful, being sent all at once, but the story about Zimbabwe shows exactly how far this racism extends back into history. It's so hard to know exactly why so many white men and women, I saw, are so reactionary and full of hate - ok with blacks "in their place," but not on equal footing. The scene of the swimming pool with the caption is so heinous I could feel my head wanting to go into disbelief. I do wonder if that's what many people are doing today with what Trump is doing - going into denial. The caption also says the Civil Rights Act was passed the next day. And what of those three men who were caught and killed just for registering blacks to vote: such a basic right. And voter suppression still exists today! The courage of so many black Americans who fought for their country in spite of their mistreatment, came home to find nothing had changed.

We NEED to get it right THIS TIME. Progress has occurred, but so slowly and not comprehensively. We've not eradicated human hate or selfishness or greed, etc. How do we cleanse a human heart of indoctrinated racism from their early years, brought about, and supported, generationally? I guess we do it one person at a time. Diligently.😒

Thanks for the articles. I'm posting them for people to see.

We simply cannot afford to look away from the AWFUL TRUTH ABOUT RACISM. Pictures I'd never seen before tell the story of the pain and the shame, and the retaliation many offenders are desperately afraid of. Sadly, it's an age-old struggle for acceptance and unification. See how far back it goes in the last link.

How do we excise hate and guilt-based fear out of people? I believe it will involve a courageous, honest reckoning, sincere remorse, and repentant hearts, followed by forgiveness and mercy.
