To quote a former colleague of yours, at a formerly estimable magazine, who shamefully has shelved his momentary grasp of reason on January 20th: “In a saner and better world, we would be having a serious discussion about the 25th Amendment RIGHT NOW”…or, to The Village Idiwitt, even more seriously, Art111.S.3.C.2.1

Thank you for maintaining your deepest integrity and not following the herd of wasted dumb arses in the polluted mainstream media that placates and enables this monster, I mean mobster in the Bada Bing, I mean Oval Office. Please Deat God deliver U.S. from the evil doers that rolls out the bloody red carpet for mass murderers and dictators. And send everyone to hell that went along to get along with the agent Orangeman menace.

The disparaging depiction of former President Biden is a reflection and expression of Trump's crassness and utter lack of taste and decorum. Being rich does not equate to being decent, ethical or having good manners -- examples in public life abound! More to the point, Trump must feel threatened by Biden and his track record to seethe so publicly and for so long.... this cannot be healthy.

I’ll give the Republican Party credit for what the elected republicans do.

Stop trying to give the party credit for what an average nobody American said. This distinction matters. Republicans with power all behave a certain way. I don’t care whether the average Americans who support them are morally better than they are; it does not reflect favorably upon the party, which is an irredeemable, illiberal, increasingly fascistic, authoritarian-minded, extremist rigbt wing party.

What you former republicans don’t understand is that you are liberal. And that America was founded as a liberal country. And both parties post WWII were broadly liberal (not leftist). And that rapidly unraveled because republicans were obsessed with power — not a coincidence. Right wing thinking is hierarchy/power-oriented. It will always move the country toward authoritarianism. It always has.

Both right and left, taken to extremes, could become illiberal. There is no threat of an illiberal left in America. There never has been. There wasn’t during McCarthyism. There isn’t now. You guys were wrong then and because you haven’t internalized that, you don’t understand why Trump so easily took over “your” party. The foundation of right wing thought is: “People are essentially bad and only a powerful leviathan can control them, so I support a powerful leviathan.” The small government thing was a convenient lie about getting government not to regulate big capital. Republicans have always supported overwhelming and unaccountable government power. On the left, the government answers to the people. On the right, the people answer to the government. And what is orthogonal is liberal/illiberal axis, and the modern GOP (1950 forward) has been an increasingly illiberal party. Problematic since America was at its founding the liberal leader of the world almost immediately (despite not having much global political/military relevance). Illiberal = unamerican, if you are conservative. Because it means abandoning our founding tradition in favor of what amounts to modern monarchism: all of us must bow to the power of the king, or the commander in chief, or the CEO for that matter (as capital has largely captured the state in America, with republicans clearing the path through Citizens United and other transparently authoritarian moves). The best we can hope for is “trickle down.”

Marie Antoinette said “Let them eat cake.” Reagan said “Let them eat crumbs.” And you guys raved about him for 40 years, until Trump came along and picked up the same slogan (MAGA was Reagan’s) and ran the same exact ideology back again. And you now act surprised? Read a book.

At the extreme, leftism prioritizes the same things liberalism tends to achieve, so Fox News helped you guys conflate the two for the past 35 years. So you believed the trans barista leftist who only ever advocated for liberal progress (follow the laws — just make them more humane and better) is a dangerous leftist, but an illiberal fascist telling you immigrants and minorities are bad and don’t get to have basic human rights but also yay Jesus and I love cheeseburgers and I have a gun and a cowboy hat wow so America… and you guys fell for it. A thin and obviously FAKE performative conservatism allowed you to pretend you weren’t a bigot, you just liked John Wayne.

You have not learned. If you are trying to find redemption for the GOP by looking at anonymous children, instead of unequivocally condemning the party for what it *really* is and very obviously always was, then you are still part of the problem.

No, it's far from right. It's disgusting and does appear to be so rump America these days.

So, Trump Murica!

And beware the smile of the Chinese emperor.

You compare the past with the present. There is no Republican party anymore. We see a club of uneducated, egomaniac “leaders” who are not able to read data and have no rational thinking. They are for now a dead party that does not even get recognized in the world, only as idiots. The real awakening will come, followed by a cleaning from inside out.
