thanks so much for posting this enlightening historical perspective. Separate the people from the oppressor. This could be us in the US as well, when the world tires of the shenanigans.
To trump it isn't about the Iranian people, or any people, he couldn't care less, it's about him feeling manly, macho, mighty, he thinks Might makes Right, and it's HIS might, not the US military, or its economic might, it's him making himself feel oh so mighty over all, a small, little shell of a man faking himself.
I still remember that New Year 1986 address of President Reagan to the Soviet people. It was a breath of fresh air. I immigrated to the US in the early 1990s, and was favoring the center-left politicians, but Reagan always was one of my heroes for his undying love of freedom. It is terrible that the "leaders" of our country today support dictators and despots all over the world against forces of democracy, decency, and human rights.
I enjoyed your post. It was like swallowing bad medicine, since I have attempted to defend and/or understand why President Trump uses such divisive language. I always feel like the child at a family gathering that has an outspoken, drunken old uncle that cannot keep his mouth shut. You love him because he has done some wonderful things for your family, and actually represents many truths that some are afraid to share.
And so while I cannot affect the outcome, I can pray for our great nation as a people to come together and strive to make the world a better place.
Remember the billboards from around 2009 featuring a picture of George W. Bush and the caption "Miss Me Yet?" A similar campaign featuring Reagan would be well received today. Well done, Jay.
I have been a Reagan conservative since 1979, after a regretted vote for Carter as my first presidential election in 1976 (He was said to be a nuclear engineer, I was a physics graduate student, my only knowledge of him in my political infancy). Trump is in no way a conservative. He is intellectually and morally bankrupt (following his financial predilections) and he sickens me.
Trump has joined the other side. How much do you bet that Putin told him to shut down Radio Free Europe, etc. The two have met without any other Americans present.
Trump has zero interest in the people of Iran or of any autocracy. He’s a wannabe autocrat himself.
He sent JD Vance to Hungary to campaign for Putin lapdog Viktor Orban, who had an election coming up.
Now it's other world leaders saying it about the US. As Justin Trudeau said in 2019 during Trump's 1st term: "This is not about the American people. We have to believe that at some point their common sense will prevail. But we see no sign of that in this action today by the U.S. administration."
Without a character and moral compass reset, generations to come are in jeopardy. We must all stand up for these in our leaders, for most of their decisions and actions are grounded in what guides them internally.
If I had been a Marine Corp sniper on that Alaskan tarmac last summer, what I would not be is the question. Same goes for June 20, 2019, in honor of my father now rolling in his grave because of a psycho killer in the Bada Bing, I mean Oval Office…on behalf of over 30,000 souls that did not come home alive from Korea. Please Dear God, deliver U.S. from evil and take him away…mobsters and monster have no right to life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness Love you Jaywalking, but no more mister nice guy, our civilization is hanging by the skin of our teeth.

Thank you, Randy.

Thx, TP!

The difference between a true conservative and a MAGAt.
