What are its harms in the present and near term future? It does not include the Palestinian people. That is a guarantee of failure of Democracy and of unsustainable goals. It's not just. It's certain to add a justifiable grievance to the forces that want to harm Israel, to gain power in the Middle East, to diminish the credibility of the United States to the point of global hostility to us. It is destabilizing and theft, and is not fit for purpose.
I then look at the proposed plan for peace in Ukraine. It is a capitulation to an aggressor, and it puts the US on the wrong side of history again, it is antidemocratic and it requires the NATO allies and all the European nations to gird their loins for war ASAP. This alone will destroy climate and cascading horrors.
As to the funeral snub, it is the footprint of the creature that has passed, and that creature is the breakup of the Republican party into still fluid factions. One can hope that this breakup is beneficial to the planet.
This takes me to the privatization of power. I am not sure how permanent this is. It seems to me to be fluid, but history shows how one recovers political power from oligarchs. The four horsemen of the apocalypse - pestilence, war, famine, and death - have now become five, with the addition of climate change.
