NATO-style would be the agreement we made in the 80’s to protect Ukraine if they gave up their nukes.

See how well that worked out for them.

Ukraine needs to be part of NATO. For their protection and for the rest of Europe.

DATELINE KYIV OBLAST - DAY 1280 : 4206

Wake up, World!

Only the speedy and conclusive defeat of the Russian Federation's armed forces in Ukraine will lead to a just and equitable peace, Russian accountability, and a brighter future for Europe and the world.

Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words. Stalemate is not an option.

Time to stop enabling the Kremlin's imperial ambitions. Time to unshackle your inner raging bull. Time to decapitate the snake.

Time is not on our side.

Cheeto: The Putin Ass Kisser, Dictator, Traitor, and National Security Risk

The Christian Nationalist Movement/Nazi/GOP told Americans what direction they wanted to take the country in 2024 in part through the widely publicized Project 2025 As Vance’s buddy Curtis Yarvin has said, “the country should get over its dictatorphobia”, Cheeto’s actions actually have gone well past the Cheeto moniker of simply dictator

With Cheeto’s obvious Putin ass kissing in Alaska the most recent insider reports from Lev Parnas indicate that it’s going to get a lot worse and establish Cheeto as a full blown traitor to the country….a 21st century Benedict Arnold Mainstream media(MSM) will never contextualize this but now Cheeto is not only ready to invite a international criminal to the States to watch to the FIFA World Cup but also willing to lift sanctions on Cheeto’s motherland Russia so it will make it easier to fight Ukraine

These kinds of deplorable, disgusting, and traitorous actions need to be called out for what they truly are Why aren’t we willing to call Cheeto who he is?? Cheeto’s a traitor to the country and the office POTUS itself has become a national security risk

Agree 100%. I’m no foreign policy expert and yet this is all so crystal clear and obvious. How can it not be so for so many of our leaders?

I suspect that many of them do understand it, but don’t know how (or think they don’t have the political capital) to explain it to their electorates. Who are perceived as being more worried about mundane domestic issues than ephereal foreign threats that, in their minds, are “someone else’s” problem to fix. I wonder if this is an accurate assessment of the electorate as a whole, though.

A "NATO-Style" guarantee is when you give up nukes in '94 in exchange for promises that are GOOD UNTIL NEEDED.

Kasparov is right that “NATO-style guarantees” are meaningless if they aren’t backed by force. But the reality is stark:

Ukraine cannot push Russia out alone. However brave and determined, Kyiv simply doesn’t have the scale of resources.

Yes, Russia feels the strain — sanctions, casualties, internal dissent — but that doesn’t change the fact that Ukraine is desperate. Its population, infrastructure, and economy are being bled dry.

NATO’s fear of escalation is the unspoken elephant. Everyone knows what restrains decisive action: Putin’s nuclear arsenal. That deterrent keeps the West cautious even when it admits Ukraine cannot succeed alone.

So the real question is not “what kind of NATO-style guarantee,” but whether NATO is willing to face down nuclear blackmail

And if NATO is serious, that means more than words: giving Ukraine true offensive parity — long-range weapons, modern air defense, economic chokeholds that actually bite, and political guarantees that raise the cost of Russian aggression. Anything less is shadowboxing.

What is an actual NATO guarantee? There are 32 nations and they have to be in accord before action is taken. It is becoming clear that Trump and Orban would rather be flying the Russian flag. A gathering storm of populism threatens unity elsewhere. It is blindingly obvious that Europe needs an alliance, but without the North Atlantic bit. At least for now.

Nobody believes that Russia is a threat to the rest of Europe. That includes European countries. It includes the Baltics and Poland. Poland could send troops to Ukraine TODAY. Poles could volunteer to fight in Ukraine TODAY. Fuck Europe won't even stop buying Russia energy and selling them stuff.

They don't believe Russia is a threat because it's HYSTERICAL. Ukraine is a basket case country that we sponsored a coup in. It's another quagmire neocons cooked up to make defense contractors rich. Nobody wants to die for it. Not even Ukranians (who have to be conscripted against their will and kidnapped off the street.)

70% of the Ukrainian public favors a negotiated end to the war, but can't get one because Ukraine doesn't have elections.

I'm sorry that both Ukraine and Russia are shithole countries. It sucks to be from a shithole country. That's your problem not ours.

I wonder if Carney's trip to Ukraine on Independence Day, and the commitments that he made there move the needle at all?
