Dear readers:
Last month, I visited the controversial (but, in my opinion, very impressive) “Garden of Evil,” where, along with RDI CEO Uriel Epshtein, I had a chance to come face-to-face with statues of two dictators who shaped my childhood back in the Soviet Union.
Their legacy is no laughing matter, but there is some dark comedy that got us smiling at least.
Please check it out!
The Next Move is returning to our weekly Substack Live slot at 5pm ET this evening (May 5).
In addition to engaging directly with your questions and comments, we’ll be discussing what I believe is a dramatic sea-change in British politics, what’s going on with the German AfD, the recently-signed Ukrainian mineral deal, and the continuing controversy roiling Harvard. This week, Uriel and I will be joined by a special guest—British Conservative MP Tom Tugendhadt—to break it all down.
We know that some of you may be tempted to go out and party for Cinco de Mayo, but since that holiday is really about defeating a foreign dictator, what better way to celebrate than to join me in strategizing about how to stop authoritarians in their tracks?
Our Substack Lives are open to all subscribers, but only paid subscribers get access to the Live Chat to ask me and my guests questions and share their thoughts on what the pro-democracy camp’s next move should be.
If you want to join in the conversation, you can upgrade here.
Paid subscribers will also get access to an upcoming exclusive series of never-before-released conversations with top US military officers about the complex security challenges facing modern democracies. We’re calling the series “Whiskey Tango.” The first one, which will be released in full to paid subscribers on Wednesday, will be my conversation with four-star General Stanley McChrystal.
Other exciting content in the pipeline this week includes a takedown of Russia’s politicization of history around what Moscow calls Victory Day and a strategic outlook on Ukraine from the former commander of the US Army in Europe.
I hope you’ll consider joining as a paid subscriber to fully participate in the debate on our next move!
