I played golf frequently in high school, not long enough to win 43 tournaments and the thought of cheating never occurred to me. I don't cheat at anything as I have a conscience. As Clint Eastwood said in "Cool Hand Luke," "A man gots to accept his limitations." Integrity means more to me than winning.
"Beware the loutification of golf," Jay wrote last September. The louts are loud and proud on and off the links in America. What hasn't be loutified here?

Now, there may have been a time when Trump played some respectable golf. That's behind him. The honorable thing to do is to accept that your game isn't what it used to be or QUIT.
Neither is possible w Trump. It's all rather transparent to all but the MAGA, just like in so many other aspects of his character and presidency.
I think you’d like a new novel that mentions the Hogan honesty legend: Honest John Pine by Vince Wheeler. Refreshing story about an Iowa golfer- who is good AND honest. Great read.
I love golf a great deal more than she loves me, but I love the tradition, the sportsmanship, the adherence to rules, and the obligation to call a penalty on oneself. It is a sport like no other.
The Bobby Jones incident is essential; can you imagine such integrity in anyone in any sport today?

I doubt Trump started cheating in old age. Most likely he has been cheating at golf and his "love" life since his youth.
Also, I read the last time he played in a golf tournament on a course he didn't own he was in the bottom fifth of the field.
