Excellent interview. It sounded like mutually respectful interlocutors who enjoyed the conversation. I’ve always admired Gary Kasparov for speaking the truth. Tim, you did a masterful job to create an engaging interview.
This might actually be the best series of questions and answers I've heard on substack, particularly, on the Russia-Ukraine war. THANK YOU for this episode. It provided a great many insights.
I only wish there was a clearcut answer as to HOW to mobilize people (Congress and the citizenry) and to get them to think more deeply and in long-er terms, as well as in terms of prevention along the lines of democratic maintenance, going forward. In my opinion, there has to be quick checks and stiff penalties for officials doing wrong and abusing the law, whether domestically or internationally.
I do agree there has to be acknowledgement by the Dems how they contributed, in part, to the events of the day.
I will keep saying we need more CREATIVE THINKERS in very responsible positions of government. As a society, we only praise and laud students who can best regurgitate what's in a book. THAT ability does not help us in these hours when we need ORIGINAL THINKERS to help define a way through this dangerous moment and VISIONARIES to move us safely into the future, who can SEE the trip hazards ahead, and who can CREATE A PLAN AROUND THEM - BEFORE problems arise - CIRCUMVENTING them. Yes, CHESS PLAYERS, who can think multiple moves ahead.
I am afraid that the problem is a bit different. You never get these creative thinkers to the responsible positions of government because the system is too much bribed already. You should remove all the liars, thieves and hypocrites who are settled deeply in the political structures of both parties and are financed for many years by people behind them who serve their own interests.
The only answer is to break really mass protests and to reach a hard reset. As was done in Ukraine in 2004 and in 2014 and elsewhere in the world. Then the first thing would be to set strict limitations to political parties sponsorship again to prevent billionaires to pump money to their favorites accounts.
Then you can have again real democratic elections which would generate best the candidates, not some senile puppets or narcissist psychopaths.
And afterwards of course you can create good plans for future. Because plans without wisdom and courage are just plans, they will never materialize.
Agreed! I just think we have to be running more than one track at a time.
Yes, we need to root out corruption and its originators and supporters, shut down the big money PACs while ALSO opening up new channels for promising candidates for the 2026 midterms and beyond, and at ALL levels of gov't.
We need people with varied talents - financial analysts, Constitutional scholars, visionaries and activists working together in government. We just can't keep going to Ivy League universities for leadership because they base entry, primarily, on SAT scores. In that way, we're missing out on a whole additional valuable segment of society WHO could likely have predicted this moment and could have forseen, and implemented, ways to prevent it. We need more than one type of leader.
In my opinion, we should also be testing college applicants for their emotional quotient (EQ) which should be given equal weight to the SAT when evaluating students for entry into universities. There is great value in one who can conceptually create something out of nothing or in this case, create a new day, potentially, in a novel way, from what might very well be a heap of ashes. We will also need to know how to encourage and reinvigorate a weary, if not, despondent public. The pulse of the nation has all but been ignored.
Sadly, I know of only ONE (1) candidate running to be re-elected for his Democratic seat in the Senate in the midterms, John Ossoff (GA), whose now opposed by MTG who wants to move from the House to the Senate - in a RED district!, and he needs all the help he can get. Is he getting any money from the DNC? What is the DNC doing? Does anyone know? Are they waiting for 2026 candidates to appear or are they actively recruiting? I've not seen the DNC being any more visible or active than they were prior to the 2024 presidential race when they failed the voters, by taking our voices away in what should have been a proper primary once Biden withdrew his candidacy for president.
The new head of the DNC, Martin(?), should be ON SUBSTACK EVERY DAY (if he is please do tell) updating US about any upcoming SPECIAL ELECTIONS, and about the TWO DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL SEATS we recently lost in Congress (Connolly and Durbin) and telling us what they're doing about that, as well as asking the public to consider running for office at that, or other, levels of government. I see them nowhere.
You see, I'm a visionary, an activist, an analyst, psychologically- and constitutionally-minded, a feeler and an optimist who can work alone or with others, am intelligent and come from the school of hard knocks. Yet, alas, I have no college degree. So I know the doors that have been shut on me, and others, without a degree. I've watched how the usual power brokers have operated for decades, repeating the same wrongs with few original ideas, operating in that business-as-usual way. They might as well be sheep moving like a mindless flock, needing a true shepherd, but guided by none. So I'm just trying to open new doors for potential new ways of choosing our leaders in the very near future - because if not now then when?
Terrific interview. Crawled out of bed early to tune in. I think Kasparov is onto something with his idea that we should focus more on principle than on policy. And urge our representatives to do the same. We want a meritocracy not a kiss-up-ocracy. Focus on the constitutional republic. What about corruption? How much energy should we give to highlighting all the corruption of the Trump family? It worked for Trump in undermining the Bidens. And yet when it’s applied to Trump, he and his supporters seem to successfully use what-aboutism to defuse the charges
So there's a very active activist named Cliff Cash and he was on "LetsGetIntoIt" here on substack and he lays out the the areas he feels we have to focus on (also principle-focused): the media, Heritage Foundation and the vets. He is worth listening to. He also goes by Cliff Cash Comedy and he just got on substack.
You're not alone in determining what to do, when and how. We must do what we can.
Appreciate the support and words of encouragement. I’m also volunteering for Principles First, amongst whom there’s been a lively discussion about strategies
Yeah, it leans center right. But my impression is that they are trying to build a big tent. I know that’s what I want. The center needs a voice as we are being pulled apart by the extremities. No?
We definitely DO need to end the polarization which I've actually been encouraging, and I think it IS happening, slowly. It's just I'm not sure where the actual breaking point would be between center right and center left but I think I'm probably right there. I'm willing to be a little happy and a little unhappy. In a democracy I don't think everyone gets their way all of the time because sometimes you're in the majority and other times you're in the minority. If some are unhappy all the time and others are happy all of the time something is off.
Question: There’s an urge to tune out: “I need to focus on other things, to prioritize my family, my well-being. And the news just makes me anxious. If I’m a nervous wreck, that doesn’t help anyone. Besides, there’s nothing I can do about it anyway.” It’s a siren song. How do we fight it?
Hi I am from Czechia where we used to have a similar situation some years ago (and maybe we will have in near future again). You need to join the people in the streets. And when there will be millions of you, the change will come. There is a 50501 movement which I think already started the avalanche to move. Good luck!
The simpering, praising, bending the knee, worship the leader… it is so disgusting to watch, and attacking the vulnerable while claiming to be Christians.

Absolutly agree, excellent interview

I think so much is wealth against the poor.

This is such important interview. I hope it can be heard far and wide.

Ah, I didn't realize it's a more conservative group. Not sure if that's for me, though I do like Adam Kinsinger.
Yeah, it leans center right. But my impression is that they are trying to build a big tent. I know that’s what I want. The center needs a voice as we are being pulled apart by the extremities. No?

That's awesome! Is it a local group or national. I'm looking to dig in somewhere.
It’s national. Kasparov spoke at their yearly conference a few weeks back
Thanks! I'm going to look into that.
Thanks! I’ll check him out
We got what your saying
They are willing to cause suffering knowing they will be getting it as well because of their desire to cause suffering .
Thank you very much, Mr. Kasparov! Your analyses bring us back to reality.
