If awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the recipient stands in the company of Martin Luther King, Jr (whose celebration as a national hero in the US the GOP has assiduously opposed at every turn to this day), Andrei Sakharov and Mother Theresa. Essentially, if handed the Nobel, American fascists can bellow "See, we're not evil (even as they repeatedly use the military to commit murder of impoverished fishermen), it's only the dark-skinned and LGBTQ and feminists who are evil and deserve to be eliminated from our society!"
It also would allow a claim of equivalency between the fascist figurehead and the various Democratic recipients, the aforementioned President Obama, as well as President Carter and Vice-President Gore basically, "Our guy is just as smart and revered as all your guys put together!" (This sort of emotionally stunted spite and resentment are also primary features of the fascist personality, which makes it that much more disturbing when fascists are installed in positions of authority, and seize democratic political institutions, because they use authority and institutions as instruments for sadistic gratification. Do not lose sight of this when assessing their schemes and efforts.)
Ultimately, no matter how grotesque and farcical, the pursuit of the Nobel is about constructing a talking point, and as such is simply a distraction. (And truth be told, Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Kissinger received Nobels, two individuals who perpetrated crimes against humanity, so count me underwhelmed by the moral gravitas of the prize.)
We should be focused on all the ways the fascist regime is dismantling the rule of law, and eviscerating civil and human rights. All else is noise.
