Thanks for sharing your 2008 National Review article on Lift Every Voice and Sing. Educational and very well said. Our St. Luke’s Episcopal church choir (Kearney, NE) staged a July 4th concert for several years which included Lift Every Voice. Was a little chary when I saw it on the program (had vague memories of the Rene Marie controversy) but was entirely reassured and inspired by the actual lyrics.
Ms. Marie, do you see how much work the St. Luke’s Episcopal choir and Mr. Nordlinger had to do to assuage my vague misapprehensions because of you? Next time please resist the temptation to play Lady Godiva to the City Council’s horse. Just do the job you were kindly asked to do.
