Ambassador Bill Taylor: my heart goes out to the ukrainian people, a people who have stoically suffered the bombing of their cities and infrastructure, the ruination of their farms, the kidnapping of their children and the many lies told by putin, amongst many other horrible things. i sincerely hope they can survive this peace process, despite the fact that agent orange is a liar himself who wishes evil to befall all who cross his path. as it now stands, i'm absolutely unconvinced that putin will agree to peace in ukraine unless he leaves the international stage in a hearse.

Great piece. Missing item: bring back pros like Ambassador Taylor to get the deal done.

A very optimistic editorial but I fear Ukraine will not get the peace it seeks. Putin and Trump will direct a deal that won’t benefit Ukraine in any meaningful way. Europe will be sidelined in any negotiations and will shoulder, with Ukraine, the burden of maintaining peace.

If, as some say, Trump fears Putin , wouldn’t that play in to his unwillingness to push Putin? Mr. Taylor certainly has the real peace plan covered and it would be beyond great if it could be achieved as he lays it out. But what will steer Trump in the right direction? He is a sociopath and pretty incoherent nowadays.

How about the real possibility that Trump us a Russian asset (Putin holds REAL leverage on Trump, probably on more than one level)? This would mean that regardless of what cards Trump may hold, he’d never be able to play them. Many inside Washington who are in a position to know have made this assertion, but mainstream media won’t touch it. Too busy kissing the Trumpass.

It looks to me that Putin knows Trump won't give him the deal he wants - sovereignty over Ukraine. And it looks to me that Putin might be bleeding the Russian treasury and the people for war funds - as happened in the 1980's, as the Soviet Union fell apart. Putin's stubbornness does lead to the question who is buying Russian bonds? The City of London? China? Israel? Saudis? Where is the money?

Please be accurate. The promise was to end the war "in 24 hours".

Trump (and his administration) cares for no one and is barely functioning as president. He is a puppet who is played during the week by his staff who tell him what to do at every turn, and then takes a break every weekend for golf. Playing the cards is more effort than they want to expend while feeding at the trough enriching themselves.
