The “southern strategy” wasn’t about the overly liberal excesses of “the left,” it was about racism in states formerly run by confederate traitors. Likewise, maga isn’t a thing because of “woke,” “DEI,” “the Marxist left,” etc, it’s about a bunch of people being duped into a far right reactionary cult by traitorous charlatans playing on biases held by about 35% of the American people.

As far as '68 goes, it is not so simple. Yes, there was the Southern Strategy. Yes, there was certainly a great deal of racism and hate. But recall also that even after the passage of the Civil Rights Act, the Democrats retained a big base below the Mason-Dixon Line (and got access to new voters as the Voting Right Act enfranchised black Americans). In the Deep South, Humphrey outran Nixon in three states and was just 2,000 votes behind him in Arkansas. But there was also the presence of George Wallace, who whipped up the segregationist vote in the south and served as a spoiler in multiple northern states where he got nearly 10% of the vote!

Look, Nixon didn't win by himself. MAGA doesn't win on its own. Trump just needs a decent enough wedge through the malleable center of the political spectrum to get a critical mass of voters who feel the Democrats have gone too far to the left. Whether those voters' assessment of the Democrats is correct doesn't matter. It's simple math: that is what those people think, and you need to win their votes somehow.

I’m not sure how much it matters what the “far left” of the Democratic Party says or believes. Whether it’s the racism of 1968 or the various bigotries of 2024, agitprop works. The GOP will propagandize the crap out of anything (big bird, diversity, Kamala’s laugh, gay marriage, Dijon mustard, literally anything!). In my opinion, there are way more (and way more easy) votes to win among disaffected, left leaning non-voters than there are among anyone who would consider voting for trump. (Kamala got seven million fewer votes than Biden) The main issue is political economy—how the riches our country generates are divided. More than half of Americans are one missed paycheck from financial ruin. I think that’s the real, salient issue that needs to be addressed. If it is, the votes will come, and that positivity will overwhelm whatever agitprop the GOP throws out. Given, it’s a big issue, and maybe it can’t be fixed easily, but it can’t be ignored. And tacking toward “the center” will assure the issue gets ignored. In my opinion, anyway.

You are correct about the Southern Strategy, first run by Richard Nixon's minions - it went thusly:

"Although the phrase "Southern Strategy" is often attributed to Nixon's political strategist Kevin Phillips, he did not originate it[17] but popularized it.[18] In an interview included in a 1970 New York Times article, Phillips stated his analysis based on studies of ethnic voting:

From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that... but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.[1]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

It’s about the sons of voters who went for the Southen strategy being the same as their dads, and their Jim Crow grandpas ànd great grandpas. And just as they did, they dress it up in religion of a particular kind. It was about race then, and it’s about race slightly more broadly Defined now. (Now the Other can be Latino, or gay, or even just preppy). They’re the same families, and certainly the same states, that wanted Irish and Italian immigration stopped and put up the Confederate monuments early in the last century. Same shit, different century

Trumpty is becoming Machiavellian is sneaky, cunning, and lacking a moral code. The word comes from the Italian philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, who wrote the political treatise The Prince in the 1500s, that encourages “the end justifies the means” behavior, especially among politicians. that is the word lev is looking for? no, yes !

The statement that the Republican Party is more rightwing than the Democratic Party is leftwing is utter nonsense. The vicious America-hating, Jew-hating Marxist left has taken over the Democratic Party. There are no Republican parallels for foul-mouthed, low-IQ racists such as Jasmine Crockett.

Democrats amuse themselves and attempt to con independents by pretending to be staunch foes of the KGB thug Vladimir Putin, but the sham should be obvious. Think back to the fawning behavior of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Putin was kept in a box by Trump and ran wild while the senile crook Joe Biden's handlers were running the show. When Ronald Reagan was working to bring down the Evil Empire, Democrats fought him tooth-and-nail. The old commie Bernie Sanders loved the Soviet Union and its offspring Cuba.

Cheeto, Russian Kompromat, and Putin

Kompromat was a term that circulated in the 2017 media when Russiagate was prominent It essentially fingered Cheeto as a Russian agent Now confirmed FBI sources show that Cheeto was a target in the 1980’s by the KGB/GRU(Russian intelligence agency) to recruit him as an agent which happened Russian promises about a Cheeto Moscow hotel property never materialized but Russian internet hacks got Cheeto elected

But it gets deeper Cheeto outbid his buddy Epstein with the help of a Russian oligarch which really pissed off Epstein who threatened Cheeto with public exposure and lawsuits But Epstein thought better of it and eventually Cheeto got paid double what he paid for it by the same Russian oligarch 3y later It’s also rumored that when Cheeto was bankrupted Russian oligarchs bailed him out

All of the above lays the foundation for Cheeto’s chumminess with his buddy dictator Putin Cheeto’s been in bed with the scumbag Putin for years and now Cheeto is meeting his fellow dictator in Alaska

Good points, Garry. Do you expect we'll ever "know exactly what the president says and does when he meets the KGB dictator"? I have serious doubts given Helsinki and others.
