You are dead right. They began by playing dead, waiting for MAGAs to wound themselves mortally on their fascist policies. Unfortunately, press billionaires side with the administration, to our shock and dismay. Not only are Schumer and Jeffries at fault, but also 16 Democrats who supported Trump's crypto scheme to make us a true kleptocracy. The rest of us get our information from posts like yours--it takes half the day to read them all. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Democrats are afraid of their own shadows. Instead of daily self-flagellation, they need to go on offensive 24/7.

Spot on Garry. Tell Tea Party Joe Walsh who recently switched to the Democratic side that he can show them how to fight against MAGA Republicans by being unconventional and not afraid to disrupt Trump’s authoritarian dictatorship.

Right on the money, Garry. Thanks for making this crucial point. The Dems have more than enough material to work with. Surely they can muster some coordination of strategy that thinks outside the box. But they’d better get on it, NOW!

I have agreed with this analysis from the start before I knew of your articulation of it. Schumer and ten democratic senators voted for cloture and republican's hit the trip wires for downgrading the Moody's ranking of the full faith and credit for the US anyway. They followed a game plan that worked before but we're battling an authoritarian coup now. I think you are right. Democrats should throw up every barrier to appointments they can, and we should look to state Attorneys General to fight criminal fraud by investigating how contracts are awarded by Trump, how he has enrched himself with cryptocurrency schemes that look like bribes for access and influence. If NOAA and FEMA, and the NIH, CDC and VA, and Social Security, Medicare, and Medicare have been hampered unlawfully by Trump and DOGE certainly there are people being harmed who should have redress against them in court.

Years of passive-aggressive conditioning (and believing their own bull shit) have left the Democrats too impotent to put up an effective fight.

Yes, you are right on.

Query, can Schumer hire McConnell to tell him how to execute every move? Mitch is a master, Shcumer is less than a NY meh

Suggest that you ask your readers to send your article to their Congressional Rep and others in government. Time for all of us to do something rather than just talk about it. I'm active in Indivisible, Swing Left and other groups. Action by us all is what will make a difference.

This seems like a question on the paradox of tolerance.

Would democrat voters tolerate a strategy that pushes acts of intolerance against the intolerant right? What about when those acts will hurt their own voters on a personal level, like a government shutdown? Are the political benefits worth the potential betrayal of the voters? Even if it’s technically legal, is it morally defensible?

I know that my ideals are blinding me from reality, but that doesn’t make the premise any more comforting. I don’t like the notion that we should be ignoring the collateral damage these things cause.

Garry, how did you maintain your sense of morality through it all? Would you say that resisting Putin’s Russia has changed you? For better? For worse?

I think relating your personal experiences, retelling stories you’ve probably told a hundred times, could be really powerful here in this space.

This is uncharted territory for us. You can lecture us a thousand times, but personal stories always hit harder.

The Devalued Dollar

What’s this inflation all about? The bottom line, the dollar doesn’t buy as much as it used to The dollar buys only half of what it did in the 1970’s In other words a loaf of bread, a car, or a refrigerator cost twice as much as it did in the 1970’s

This lack of purchasing power of the currency has gradually occurred over the last 50 years but if you go to the Commodities section of the stlouisfed.com and you can view this in graphic form Another way to talk about the loss of purchasing power of the dollar is called a devalued dollar

How did this loss of purchasing power occur? The central bank, aka the Fed, over the last 50 years has been footing the government spending by printing more money aka quantative easing(QE) to be put into circulation increasing the number of dollars and hence diluting the purchasing power of the dollars in circulation This has now led to a debt crisis for the government where rising bond yields with a deteriorated dollar value on exchanges Foreign investors of American bonds are wanting higher yields if they are going to service American debt

I also wonder why slick, fast-talking, one-liner-zinging personalities aren’t stepping into the political arena for the dems. There are plenty of possible candidates - for example, Jimmy Kimmel or Stephen Colbert. I can see night comedians or glib actors brushing back the mobster Trump on a debate stage, talking over him, not allowing him to even get a word in edgewise. Once we get over the phase of fear I think such voices will emerge. Jeffries and Schumer need to exit stage left.
